Vuity eye drops (1.25% pilocarpine hydrochloride) are a prescription eye drops used to treat presbyopia. They enhance near vision by contracting the pupils, and their effects and drug interactions need to be explained in conjunction with clinical usage guidelines.

1. Effect of action

(1) Mechanism of action

By stimulating the muscarinic receptors in the iris sphincter, pupil contraction is induced, producing a pinhole effect to improve near vision, which can last for 6 hours.

(2) Effective time

It starts to take effect 15 minutes after medication and reaches the best effect within 1-2 hours. It is recommended to apply 1 drop to each eye every morning.

(3) Applicable population

Suitable for patients aged 40-55 with mild to moderate presbyopia, the effect may be limited for patients with severe presbyopia or cataracts.

2. Drug interactions

(1) Other medications for reducing pupils

Avoid combining with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors or other pupil constrictors as it may enhance pupil constriction and cause discomfort.

(2) Anticholinergic drugs

Atropine and other anticholinergic drugs may antagonize the miotic effect of Vuity, and should be used intermittently or the dosage adjusted.

(3) Local beta blocker

Combined use with intraocular pressure lowering drugs such as thiamethoxam may increase the risk of iris inflammation and require monitoring of eye reactions.

3. Usage restrictions

(1) Taboo population

Patients with acute iritis and angle closure glaucoma are prohibited from using it; Use with caution in individuals with retinal lesions.

(2) Adverse reactions

Common headaches, eye pain, and blurred vision, usually mild and brief; If severe eye pain occurs, stop taking medication immediately and seek medical attention.

(3) Special precautions

Caution should be exercised when driving at night after taking medication, as pupil constriction in dark environments may affect distance vision.
