Pemafibrate is a selective PPARα modulator mainly used to treat hypertriglyceridemia. Correct administration is key to ensuring efficacy and reducing adverse reactions.

Routine Usage and Relationship with Food

The usual adult dose is 0.1 mg twice daily, taken orally in the morning and evening.

The drug may be taken with meals or on an empty stomach, and absorption is not significantly affected by food; patients with sensitive stomachs are advised to take it with meals to reduce discomfort.

Try to take the medication at a fixed time each day, such as with or after breakfast and dinner, to maintain stable blood drug concentrations.

During treatment, a low-fat diet, limited alcohol consumption, and regular exercise should be combined to enhance the lipid-lowering effect.

Handling Missed Doses

If remembered when there is still a long time until the next dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible.

If the next dose is approaching, skip the missed dose and take the next dose as originally scheduled.

Do not take a double dose at once to make up for a missed dose, as this may increase the risk of muscle or liver adverse reactions.

Patients who frequently miss doses should inform their doctor, and reminder methods may be adjusted if necessary.

Principles of Dose Adjustment

The starting dose is usually 0.1 mg twice daily; the doctor may adjust it based on triglyceride levels, liver and kidney function, and tolerability.

Dose adjustment must be decided by the doctor, and patients must not increase or decrease the dose on their own.

During treatment, blood lipids, liver function, and creatine kinase should be monitored regularly; if unexplained muscle pain, fatigue, or dark urine occurs, seek medical attention promptly.

Patients with renal impairment may require dose reduction, to be carried out according to medical advice.

If discontinuation or a change of medication is needed, consult a doctor to avoid rebound of blood lipids.
