Management of side effects of digotinib ointment: how to deal with local burning, dryness, and erythema
In the early stages of treatment, some users of digotinib ointment may experience localized burning sensation, dry skin, or worsening erythema. These reactions are mostly temporary, and mastering the correct coping methods can help improve medication comfort and compliance.
1. Response to local burning sensation
1.1 Natural adaptation: Mild burning sensation usually subsides on its own within minutes to tens of minutes after medication, without the need for special treatment.
1.2 Cooling and Soothing: Place the ointment at room temperature (do not refrigerate) and gently rub it open with fingertips before applying; If the burning is obvious, a cool towel can be gently applied to the affected area (not immediately after medication) to alleviate discomfort.
1.3 Avoid irritation: Suspend the use of skincare products containing alcohol, fragrances, or acidic ingredients during medication to reduce secondary irritation to the skin.
2. Care for dry skin
2.1 Moisturizing before medication: After cleansing the skin, apply a fragrance free and pigment free moisturizer first, wait for 5-10 minutes for absorption, and then apply digotinib ointment to reduce dryness and flaking.
2.2 Daily Moisturizing Enhancement: During non medication periods, moisturizers can be reapplied multiple times. Choose products containing repairing ingredients such as ceramides or squalane to help repair the skin barrier.
2.3 Gentle Cleaning: Use warm water (not hot water) and gentle cleansing products, gently pat dry after washing your face or bathing, to avoid rubbing and aggravating dryness.
3. Treatment for exacerbation of erythema
3.1 Initial observation: Mild erythema reaction during the initial stage of medication is a normal phenomenon, which usually subsides with continued treatment and does not require immediate discontinuation.
3.2 Distinguishing reaction types: If the erythema is limited to the original affected area and has not spread, medication can continue; If the redness area significantly expands, the color deepens, or accompanied by severe itching/pain, it is necessary to suspend use and contact a doctor.
3.3 Avoid light and sun protection: The medication area should be kept away from direct sunlight, and physical shielding (such as hats or clothing) should be used when going out to prevent UV rays from aggravating the erythema reaction.
4. Cautious medical indications
4.1 If the burning, dryness, or erythema persists or worsens after one week of medication, a follow-up evaluation should be conducted.
4.2 If there are blisters, exudation, signs of infection (such as yellow scabs) or systemic rash, the medication should be stopped immediately and medical attention should be sought.
