Indian Ajanta Ivermectin Cream: Usage, Dosage, and Special Population Use
Ivermectin cream is mainly used to treat skin diseases such as rosacea. Its usage and dosage should be adjusted according to the indications. Special attention should be paid to the safety of pregnant, lactating, and pediatric patients when using it for special populations.
1. Usage and dosage
(1) Adults and adolescents aged 12 and above: Apply a thin layer once a day on dry facial skin, avoiding eyelids, lips, and mucous membrane areas. The treatment cycle is usually 4 months, or adjusted according to medical advice.
(2) Children under 12 years old: Safety and efficacy have not been established, and use is not recommended. If necessary, strictly follow the doctor's guidance and adjust the dosage.
2. Medication for special populations
(1) Pregnancy: Animal studies have shown potential embryotoxicity, and should be avoided during pregnancy. When necessary, a risk assessment should be conducted and fetal development should be closely monitored.
(2) Breastfeeding period: It is not clear whether the medication is secreted through breast milk. It is recommended to suspend breastfeeding during the treatment period and within 5 days after stopping the medication to prevent the risk of infant ingestion.
(3) Children: Patients under 12 years old lack safety data and need to carefully evaluate the risk return ratio. Prohibited for children before puberty, unless clinically necessary.
(4) Older adults: Age related skin barrier dysfunction may increase absorption, but dosage adjustment is usually not necessary. Local stimulus response needs to be monitored.
3. Precautions
(1) Medication site: For external use only, not for the eyes or open wounds. Wash hands thoroughly after use to avoid accidental contact with eyes or mouth.
(2) Drug interactions: Combination with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors may increase systemic exposure and require interval dosing or monitoring of adverse reactions.
(3) Allergic reactions: It is contraindicated for individuals allergic to ivermectin or other macrolide drugs. It is recommended to conduct a small-scale skin test before first use.
