Usage and dosage of Aymed version Elmiron in Türkiye and medication for special population
As a medication for treating interstitial cystitis, the standard dose of Elmiro is 300mg per day, taken in divided doses. Special populations need to adjust their medication regimen based on liver and kidney function and physiological status.
1. Usage and dosage
(1) Adult standard dose: It is recommended to take 300mg orally daily, divided into 3 times (100mg each time) with meals, to reduce gastrointestinal irritation.
(2) Treatment requirements: Continuous medication for 3-6 months is required to take effect, and treatment should be maintained to prevent recurrence even after symptoms have improved.
2. Medication for special populations
(1) Pregnant women: Animal experiments have shown embryotoxicity, and human data is insufficient. Pregnant women should avoid using it unless the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
(2) Breastfeeding period: It is unknown whether medication has been administered. It is recommended to suspend breastfeeding during treatment to avoid potential adverse reactions in the infant.
(3) Children: Safety and efficacy have not been established for patients under 18 years old, and its use is not recommended.
(4) Elderly: Patients over 65 years old do not need to adjust their dosage, but close monitoring of changes in liver and kidney function is necessary.
3. Individuals with abnormal liver and kidney function
(1) Mild liver damage: Child Pugh A patients do not require dose adjustment, but need to strengthen liver function monitoring.
(2) Moderate to severe liver damage: Not recommended for Child Pugh B/C patients as it may increase the risk of drug accumulation.
(3) Renal injury: Patients with mild to moderate renal insufficiency do not need to adjust the dosage, and patients with end-stage renal disease should use it with caution.
