Indications and medication precautions for German Haupt edition Prussian Blue capsules
PrussianBlue capsules are mainly used for detoxification treatment of specific heavy metal poisoning, and their use must strictly follow the indications and pay attention to the risks of special medication. The following will explain from two aspects: indications and precautions.
1. Indications
(1) Thallium poisoning
As a potent chelating agent for thallium ions, it can block the reabsorption of thallium in the intestine, promote the excretion of absorbed thallium through bile, and significantly reduce blood thallium concentration.
(2) Cesium poisoning
High affinity for radioactive cesium (such as Cs-137) can reduce intestinal absorption and accelerate the clearance of cesium in the body, making it suitable for emergency response in nuclear accidents.
2. Medication precautions
(1) Medication regimen
The standard dose for adults is 3g orally three times a day, and for children it is calculated at 20mg/kg per time. A suitable amount of water is needed to prepare a suspension and take it. The treatment usually lasts for 30 days.
(2) Taboo population
Patients with intestinal obstruction should absolutely avoid using it, and those with severe constipation should first defecate before taking medication. Risk benefit ratio should be evaluated for use during pregnancy, and feeding should be suspended during lactation.
(3) Adverse reactions
Common constipation and stool staining (blue), severe cases may lead to hypokalemia. During medication, electrolyte and bowel movements should be monitored, and laxatives should be used if necessary.
(4) Drug interactions
It can affect the absorption of other oral medications and should be taken every 2 hours. Pay special attention to the compatibility with potassium supplements, which may exacerbate electrolyte imbalances.
(5) Special monitoring
During the treatment period, it is necessary to regularly monitor blood thallium/cesium concentration, electrolytes, and liver and kidney function, and adjust the course of treatment and dosage based on the test results.
